Credit Cards

Where it all started Series 1.

Like I said, when I first thought about launching this site it was all about sharing my journey and explaining in simple terms how you too can do the same thing, to learn and understand, how the airline miles aka “the points game” works.

There’s so much credit cards out there so initially choosing the right card can be very overwhelming and scary at the best of times, even within American Express itself there’s a huge variety of cards.

From household to business cards from fee cards to free cards but I opted for the British Airways American Express Premium Plus card and paying the yearly fee of £195 simply because I wanted to rack up avios points quicker. You can apply for this card by clicking through here.

Let’s take a closer look at what this card has to offer and cover the cost for this card and its benefits

As a new card member, you will earn 25,000 bonus Avios when you spend £3,000 in your first Three months of card membership,

  • However, what do you need to remember is that you can only qualify for the 25k avios sign up bonus if you haven’t held an Amex card in the past 24 months. however if you’ve had an amex rewards card that should b e fine and you can still get the sign up bonus
  • When getting referred to from a friend you will earn an extra 1000 bonus avios points
  • Representative APR 7% APR variable
  • Annual fee Based on £195
  • Credit Limit Assumed credit limit of £1,200
  • Purchase Rate 2% variable for purchases

You need to spend £10,000.00 per year in order to reach your target to qualify for the 2-4-1 voucher which that later on allows you to buy a redemption ticket to anywhere where British Airways flies to and only needing to pay the avios amount for 1 person rather than 2, these points get transferred automatically once a month to your British Airways account that you can sign up here and later on redeem them for flights etc.

With the premium plus card you get 1.5 avios points for every £ you spend and 3 points for every £ pound you spend on the British Airways website.

What happens if you opt for the Premium card and you pay the £195 yearly fee and after hitting your target spend of £10k and want to downgrade to the free card, can you?

The answer is yes you can, and depending on how many months you still have left you get back the rest of the fee money too

Why do people often to that?

Well in another article we will talk about the free British Airways American Express card but the main reason why you might want to do that is because on the fee card the 2-4-1 voucher is valid for 2 years rather than the 1 year on the free card which is something very valuable and will be talked about in a separate article.

Let us know in the comments section below what your favorite card and if you would be taking out an American express credit card.

About Me

My name is Palty Marmorstein and I am just a normal (well, I hope so) guy holding down a regular job, but in my spare time I am an avid plane spotter and obsessed with all things aviation, such as keeping up with my favourite aircrafts to identifying which airline is offering amazing deals. This love for flying developed when I was just 10 years old, taking my first flight to New York City.
