What we know so far…
Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-524 (not to get confused with the B737-MAX) (this was an older aircraft) registration PK-CLC performed a scheduled flight on 09/01/2021 From Jakarta (CGK) to Pontianak (PNK) as flight SJ182
The aircraft was carrying a total of 62 people, 46 adults, 7 children, 3 infants and
2 Pilots and 4 crew members were operating this flight.
This 26 yr old aircraft was climbing out of Jakarta about 11nm north of Jakarta’s Sokarno International Airport over the Java Sea when radar and radio contact was lost with the aircraft. The aircraft has so far not turned up anywhere else. A search is underway. according to multiple sources.
According to FR24 Sriwijaya Air flight SF182 lost more than 10.000 feet of altitude in less than one minute, about 4 minutes after departure from Jakarta.
According to ADS-B data the aircraft had departed Sokarno’s runway 25R at 07:36Z, was climbing through 10,600 feet at 07:39:50Z about 11nm north of Sokarno Airport and was at 07:40:11Z at 1400 feet about 1.6nm northnortheast of that position (average sink rate 26,300 fpm).
*UPDATE* it now appears as if some debris have been found according to multiple news outlets
As this story develops we will be updating this post, suffice to say its not looking good and we sincerely hope that everyone made it out alive.
