In 2022, Barclays launched two new MasterCard credit cards. One is the Barclaycard Avios Plus Card, which we will review in this article, and the second is the Barclaycard Avios Card, essentially the free version of the Plus card.

Sign-up bonus.

As of August 2024, the current sign-up bonus for this card stands at 25,000 Avios when you spend £3,000 within the first three months of having the card.

Card eligiblity.

Who can qualify to get the bonus? A: everyone qualifies for the bonus unless…

  1. You’ve had a Barclaycard Avios card in the past 24 months.
  2. You are ineligible to apply if you have held any Barclaycard credit card, whether an Avios or non-Avios card, within the last six months.
Etihad Business Class
Collect Avios points with the Barclay card to redeem for travel in business class.

Annual fee.

Instead of a yearly fee, this card has a monthly cost of £20.00 (or £240.00 per year), so as long as you keep this card, you will get charged monthly. However, you do have the option to downgrade to the free version at any time if you do not want to spend the monthly fee (obviously, some key benefits will differ between the paid version and the free version of this card)
The representative APR is 80.1% APR variable, including the annual fee. The representative APR on purchases is 29.9% variable.

What’s the earning rate on the Barclaycard Avios Plus Card?

The earning rate for the Barclaycard Avios Plus card is 1.5 Avios for every £ spent.

Barclaycard Avios Plus key benefit.

When I choose which card should be in my wallet, I always look at its benefits. This card deserves a spot, and here’s why: Spend £10,000 on your card within 12 months and choose between

  1. British Airways cabin upgrade voucher, valid for two years, to use on an Avios Reward Flight booking or,
  2. 7,000 bonus Avios.

Barclaycard Avios Plus other benefits.

  • Airport Lounge Membership – gain access to over 1,000 airport lounges worldwide for a discounted rate of £18.50 per person per lounge pass; although nothing here is too crazy, I’m sure some people might benefit.

  • One of the pearl lounge lounges. Barclaycard avios
buy cheap lounge access with DragonPass.

Barclaycard Avios Plus other things to note.

As mentioned above, you can downgrade to the free version of this card at any given time—it’s that simple. However, your account needs to be up to date when doing so. You should obviously only do that once you’ve triggered your upgrade voucher. The same works in reverse, too, where you can upgrade from free to paid versions.

Conclusion.

So, to conclude this Review of the Barclaycard Avios Plus card, I would definitely recommend having this card as the earning rate is excellent; it’s in line with the Virgin Atlantic Rewards+ Credit Card, where you also earn 1.5 points per £ spent on the card, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this card has some of the best benefits that I’ve ever seen because that’s definitely not the case however its worth having just for the upgrade voucher that you can score after spending £10,000 in your first 3 months of having the card.
