TL;DR:

  • Offer live from: 18 June 2025
  • Ends: 1 February 2026
  • Register required? Yes – via the Amex app or email
  • Max Tier Points you can earn: 2,500
  • Card needed: British Airways American Express Premium Plus American Express (not the freebie)
  • Spend needed for full whack: £25,000
  • Backdated spend counts? Nope. Clean slate.
  • Companion Voucher still separate? Yup. Different beast.

Well, That Took a While…

British Airways announced its shiny new Club loyalty scheme back in April with a teaser: “You’ll be able to earn 2,500 Tier Points a year on the BA Premium Plus Amex.” You can read about it here.

And then… silence.

Two and a half months of radio static later, BA and Amex have finally stopped ghosting us and dropped the full rules – just in time for you to get spending.

Let’s break it down. No fluff, just the facts – with a WingTips twist.

What’s the Deal?

You can now earn up to 2,500 Tier Points by spending on the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card – but only if you register. The free BA Amex isn’t invited to this party. Click here for our full review of the British Airways American Express Premium Plus credit Card.

Here’s the tiered structure:

Spend Amount Tier Points Earned Running Total
£15,000 750 TP 750 TP
£20,000 +750 TP 1,500 TP
£25,000 +1,000 TP 2,500 TP

All spending must occur after registration and by 1 February 2026. If you hit £25k, you max out the bonus.

Note: That’s net spend. Taxes, fees, FX markups and Avios redemptions don’t count.

Do I Still Get My Companion Voucher?

Yes – totally separate. You’ll still get the Companion Voucher for spending £15,000 in your Amex membership year, regardless of this new Tier Point offer.

And no, you don’t need to double your spending to earn both.

That said, timing gets awkward. Many cardholders wait until the end of their card year to trigger the voucher, so they have 24 months to redeem it. Now, you might need to spend earlier than you’d like if you’re chasing Tier Points, too.

What’s the Catch?

Oh, a few:

  • Backdated spending won’t count. If you splurged between 1 April and 17 June, tough luck – the counter starts from the moment you register.
  • FX fees don’t count, either. But Amex doesn’t break them out on your statements. So, if you’re calculating your spending manually, subtract 2.99% from non-Sterling transactions.
  • The maths could’ve been simpler. Instead of tiering it like a loyalty-themed obstacle course, BA could’ve just given 1 Tier Point per £10 spent between £15k and £25k. But hey, it’s BA – they like a bit of turbulence in everything.

And That Rumour About Free Tier Points?

Whispers from Head for Points suggest BA might chuck in 500 free Tier Points to all Premium Plus cardholders as a goodwill gesture for the delay.

No official word yet, and weirdly, it’s not in the registration email. So… maybe? Maybe not? Classic BA communication.

What Does 2,500 Tier Points Actually Get You?

Here’s where it gets juicy:

BA Club Tier Tier Points Needed What 2,500 TP Gets You
Bronze 3,500 Nearly there (you’d need £1k net BA spend too)
Silver 7,500 One-third of the way
Gold 20,000 Let’s not get carried away

For many, Bronze is a sweet spot – it gets you free seat selection 7 days before departure and priority boarding. That alone can be worth a small fortune in saved seat fees.

Should You Upgrade to Premium Plus for This?

If you’re currently on the free BA Amex and reckon you can casually run up £25,000 in spending over the next seven months – go for it.

At £300/year, the British Airways American Express Premium Plus card also gives you:

  • The Companion Voucher (usable in any cabin) – Click to read more about it here.
  • 1.5 Avios per £1, or 3 Avios per £1 on ba.com
  • A decent shot at hitting Bronze or even Silver with this new Tier Points deal

Just keep in mind: your Tier Points vanish at the end of your BA Club year. So, timing matters.

Is This Here to Stay?

BA says it hopes the offer will return in 2026 – and run from 1 April next time. Which makes sense. Launching something that doesn’t backdate to your loyalty year was never going to fly with hardcore Avios nerds.

Final Call

  • Register from 18 June 2025 via Amex email or app
  • Spend up to £25,000 by 1 February 2026
  • Bag up to 2,500 Tier Points
  • Doesn’t affect your Companion Voucher – but watch the overlap
  • Expect BA to drag its feet again next year
