I would love to hear some of the reader’s opinions on this matter; as you all know, I’m based in the UK, and of course, just like any other country, we too have credit cards where you can earn and redeem miles and points with multiple airlines, but I couldn’t help but wonder a question which has been bugging me for a while now.
In This Post
Does the UK lack credit cards?
Let me explain. In the UK, we have American Express, the BA Amex, Virgin Atlantic, and Barclaycard for everyday use; there may be some others, but not on this scale,
Then, of course, you have the business cards from American Express and Capital on Tap and some others, too,
Now, if we were to compare us for a minute, let’s say to the US, one could argue, well, the UK isn’t nearly as big as the US; while that is true, we do see other smaller countries like the Middle East where there are just hundreds of credit cards to choose from.
And then there’s the sign-up bonuses.
Let me emphasise on this,
In the USA, sign-up bonuses are a big deal. We often see them as big as 100k at a time and maybe even more. Again, I don’t live there, so I’m not too familiar with the numbers, but what I do know is that they are big numbers, which begs the question: Why don’t we see those substantial sign-up bonuses here in the UK?
Is there no demand for it? I don’t think so, and many people would agree with me.
Conclusion:
I’d love to hear what you think of this. Does the UK also lack credit card choices? Are other countries spoiled for choice? And are the sign-up bonuses in this country just too low to make it worthwhile staying long-term in the game?
