If you live in the UK, you would know that collecting Emirates Skywards miles isn’t easy. However, having said that, I flew several times with Emirates over the years, so I had a decent balance piling into my account. So, how did I redeem the Heathrow Rewards points then?

I didn’t redeem them for an Emirates first-class ticket.

I didn’t use my miles for a fancy business class seat.

While you may think this would be my first choice, that wasn’t the case since I did not have that many. I just had a couple of thousand in my account which were about to expire, so here’s what I did to prevent them from expiring; since you can transfer your Emirates Skywards miles into Heathrow Rewards, I did exactly that, now they were just sitting in my Heathrow Rewards account, and they almost expired I then went, and I transferred them into vouchers, and I waited for a good deal to redeem them at Heathrow. However, something much better came up:

The redemption.

Recently, I took a trip to Mexico, and while passing through the shops at Heathrow Airport, I decided to treat myself to a Samsonite bag I had always wanted. This bag was quite expensive; luckily, with my vouchers, I got it for a dirt-cheap price.

Conclusion.

It’s not always about the value of the buck you get when redeeming hard-earned points. Sometimes, a good redemption can be for something I genuinely need, and in my case, pun intended, that worked out perfectly. So I guess I’m trying to say that sometimes when you have a small bundle of miles stacked somewhere, you never know if one day that might come in handy, and you’d be thankful that you kept hold of it because the Heathrow Emirates partnership came through for me after all.
