A viral travel trend is making the rounds called Extreme Day Tripping (EDT). Now, if you’re a seasoned traveller, you’re probably rolling your eyes; day trips aren’t new, mate, but hear me out. This isn’t your casual jaunt to Paris for a baguette and a selfie under the Eiffel Tower. It’s more intense, ambitious, and just a little unhinged.

The Extreme Day Tripping Game Plan
The rules are simple:
- Catch the first flight out to a new country.
- Squeeze every possible experience out of your limited hours.
- Race back to the airport for the last flight home.
- Collapse into your own bed, questioning your life choices.
Sounds mad? Absolutely. But does it work? Surprisingly, yes.
Why Are People Extreme Day Tripping?
One word: money. Hotels? Overrated. Why shell out for a night’s stay when you can explore a new country and return for breakfast? Extreme day-tripping is the budget traveller’s loophole, maximising adventure and minimising cost. Plus, there’s the sheer flex of saying, Oh yeah, just popped to Italy for lunch without actually moving there for tax reasons. check out the YouTube video below!
Have I Done It?
Many times before I even realised it had a name. But the wildest one? British Airways 100th-anniversary promo, where they sold 100 tickets for £100. I snagged one to Cape Town and did a weekend in just 48 hours. Insane? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
So, should you try it? If you love chaos, budget travel, and bragging rights 100%. Just don’t blame me when you’re chugging coffee at passport control, wondering what time zone you even exist in.
The Verdict: Madness or Genius?
Extreme day-tripping isn’t for the faint of heart or anyone who values a proper night’s sleep. But for those who thrive on chaos, cheap flights, and the sheer adrenaline rush of squeezing an entire country into a handful of hours, it’s a strangely addictive way to travel.
Sure, it’s the most relaxing experience, but that’s the point. It’s the thrill, the efficiency, and the bragging rights of saying, “Oh, I just popped over to Madrid for some tapas.” If that sounds like your kind of madness, book that first flight out, but don’t forget the caffeine. You’re going to need it.

I have been doing it RECENTLY TO bcn. tHE REASON IS RYANAIR IS SO CHEAP BUT THE HOTELS IN BCN are A BIT OUTRAGEOUS. when i need some sun and warmth, i go there from this GLOOMY london and eat at nice restaurants and come back by midnight. i enjoy some netflix show on my flights and enjoy some breakfast and snack at the lounges. it is fun and not as TIRING as you say.
