The topic of Jetlag is like discussing a cure for a hangover. Everyone always has their own remedy that works for them. Jetlag has the same vibe in that everyone does what works best for them, so I decided to write down my remedies and how to avoid Jetlag as much as possible. Whether you’re flying West or East, here are my survival tactics for Jetlag!

Flying West.

My guide to avoid jetlag.

Whenever I fly West, I usually tend to take a late flight, obviously depending on how far west I’m flying; if I fly from London to New York, then I’ll take a late flight; however, if I fly, say, to Los Angeles, I’ll usually take an afternoon flight since I’ll be arriving at night, which means going straight to bed letting your body sleep everything off so I can wake up the next morning refreshed. However, the return is a bit more challenging, and I’m not always as lucky since fewer day flights are returning from the States to the UK. Working around it is more complicated, so I usually take an early morning flight. That way, I can arrive in the UK at night and return to bed.

Flying East:

Flying East is a bit different and also depends on your location; for example, if you fly to the Middle East, different rules apply there because the “rush hour” over there tends to be during the night; it also depends on how far East you’re flying, but here I would try to leave the UK early morning since arriving there would be at night time, and returning from there I would usually fly in the mornings to early afternoon so I can arrive into the UK at night and head straight to bed.

I always try to arrive in the evenings.

On those rare occasions that I arrive in the UK, let’s say during the day, I go to bed for an hour or two and set an alarm to wake me. Yes, it is challenging to wake up, but I try to avoid sleeping too much during the day so that my body is still tired for the night’s ahead sleep.

Staying in my home time zone while travelling, even on short trips, doesn’t work for me in the slightest!

Conclusion.

One thing that works for me 100% of the time, whether flying West or East to avoid Jetlag, is making sure to arrive at my destination at night; I have never had an issue with Jetlag if I do it that way because as soon as I arrive, I immediately let my body sleep off so I can wake up the following day and immediately rejoin the local time.
